Simon was a little cinnamon‐brown owl. He lived high in an old oak tree. His eyes were big and round, like two moons. Every night, he watched the forest and asked questions. “Why does the river sing?” “Where do the stars sleep?” Simon thought a clever owl should know everything. Whenever he didn’t know something, he felt small inside.
Simón era un pequeño búho color canela. Vivía en la rama de un viejo roble. Tenía ojos grandes como dos lunas. Cada noche miraba el bosque y hacía preguntas. —¿Por qué canta el río? —¿Dónde duermen las estrellas? Simón pensaba que un búho listo debía saberlo todo. Cuando no sabía algo, su pecho se hacía pequeñito.

One night, a star streaked across the sky. Whoosh! It disappeared behind the Shining Mountains. Simon’s eyes grew wide and round. Bruno, the old crow, pointed toward the mountains with one wing. “That’s where the Wishing Tree grows. Maybe it has the answers you’re looking for. And you might find a few surprises along the way.”
